It’s too Windy!

Sunday started out a bit disappointing. We were supposed to anchor off the island of Bozcaada (also known as Troy) but due to a choppy sea the crew was unable to safely launch the tenders to take people to shore. We particularly were interested in the castle and the quaint Greek Village.

However, the day was redeemed by being able to attend an interfaith church service led by an English history professor, a day to chill before arriving in Istanbul which were going to be very busy, and finally the fact that we would be passing through the Dardanelles during daylight hours. This is a very narrow body of water separating Greece and Turkey. The Dardanelles were the site of a disastrous battle in WWI battle in which thousands of Aussies and Kiwis were slaughtered by the Turks. It was a major defeat of the British forces and forced the resignation of Winston Churchill. All along the shores are monuments to those who died during the battle as well as to the victorious Turkish army.

We proceed through this passage and through the Sea of Marmaris as we sailed towards Istanbul. After a lovely supper and a show by a classical guitarist we turned in with visions of Istanbul the next morning.
