Into the Islands - First Day of the Cruise

The first day of the cruise arrived and we said goodbye to our hotel in Athens. The traffic was frantic as it was the first day of school. We arrived at the ferry terminal and went through security. Here is Marija on the grand staircase! Our ship has 600 passengers and about the same number of staff. We enjoyed a buffet lunch with a couple from the U.S. He had been a lawyer, and she a teacher! We waited until about 3:00 and then went to our staterooms and unpacked.

For the rest of the afternoon we explored the majority of the 10 - storey vessel. There is a wonderful fitness centre, a small pool and hot tub and multiple restaurants. We found a library on the top floor with a jigsaw puzzle on the go and a lot of interesting books.

In the evening we enjoyed a show featuring 70’s music and then the ship lifted anchor and set sail for Mykonos.

In the morning we awoke to discover several other cruise ships and ferries moving in and out of the busy little harbour. After breakfast we were tendered over to the island, enjoyed a short bus ride, and then walked through the town. On the way we met a delightful couple from Australia.

The famous windmills - no longer in use.

All the buildings are painted white. Within the town the narrow streets are mainly used for walking. Tourist shops abound.

this is a photo shoot. The lady on the right would hold up the train of the dress, wait for the wind to grab it and let go. The photographer would then try for a clever shot.

This is our tender.

At about 12:30 we headed back. We noticed that a very large ship had docked and upon inquiry found that it contained 6000 guests, more than all the other ships in the harbour put together. Needless to say we were glad to have missed them! We are going to the Captain’s reception tonight and then for a seafood dinner.
